Birdman ‘still good’ Eating

It’s a great night on Gertrude Street with the light show in full effect, horses are parading around roof turrets and pubs are lit up with harlequin.

Fortunately we have booked in at Birdman Eating so we can rock up and grab our table once we have seen all the sites.

We quickly sort out a bottle of the Summerfield Cabernet which is full of delicious blackcurrant flavors and we are ready to order.

Lots and lots of lovely dishes on the menu and the specials sound amazing.

The Zucchini and Feta Fritters are amazing, crunchy coating and super creamy inside.

I adored the fried haloumi with red rice, dried sour cherry’s & pistachio salad, the haloumi is super squeaky and I love the contrast with the nuts and berries.

We are all game to go for something a bit different so next up is the Grilled ox tongue with beetroot, capers & horseradish salad. The tongue tastes meaty and nothing like the texture I expected and with the horseradish the flavors a quite Greek.

A big seasonal trend at the moment, the roast brussel sprouts with capers, parsley & labne are delicious – I really love sprouts! However this is the second place charging $10 for plate of unpopular veggies!!

One of the best dishes is the slow roasted lamb shoulder with celery heart leaves, fetta and lemon. The meat flakes enticingly and again the Greek flavors are just wonderful.

Bit the best of the best is most definitely the special, simply referred to as rib eye with mash it is heaven on a plate! Beautiful lightly caramelised rare meat with super creamy mash – I didn’t want to share!!!

We are so full of yummy food but the dessert menu is too tempting!

The couverture chocolate honey comb is super crunchy and is great with my coffee.

Imagine the hot cinnamon doughnuts with chocolate sauce!!! And then add pavlova, chantilly cream & strawberries – what a great end to a fantastic night!!

The setting is eclectic with birdmen flying from the ceiling amongst the coconut plants. The staff are lovely and I can’t recommend this hot spot enough.
